NSWIS cyclist Caleb Ewan has continued his meteoric rise in the sport following a fourth place finish at the 2013 UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Florence, Italy.

Competing in the men’s under-23 road race, Ewan did not consider himself a medal contender given the hilly Tuscan course did not play to his strengths.

However despite the challenges Ewan was part of a bunch of riders chasing Matej Mohoric, who broke away with around 35km left of the 140km course.

Mohoric took line honours to seal victory with Ewan in the thick of the action in the bunched sprint, eventually finishing in fourth place 13 seconds behind the winner.

Also competing at the world championships was fellow NSWIS athlete Lauren Kitchen, who finished sixth in the women’s team time trial riding for Wiggle Honda.
