NSWIS cyclist Caleb Ewan has sprinted to a second place finish at the 2012 Jayco Bay Cycling Classic yesterday, announcing his arrival on the senior cycling stage.

Ewan sprinted to victory in the second leg of the event, leaving spectators in awe as he outsprinted winners from the three grand tours, including Robbie McEwen and fellow NSWIS athlete Chris Sutton.

The sprint victory in stage two left him firmly placed in the top-10, however yesterday’s final sprint victory was the icing on the cake for the 17 year old, powering past compatriots Leigh Howard and Allan Davis in the final 50m to win the final stage and take second overall.

Ewan was recently awarded the Out & About Marketing and Media Junior Athlete of the Year at the 2011 NSWIS Awards Dinner, and is the reigning world junior omnium champion.
