NSWIS hockey players, Tamworth’s Isaac Farmilo and Parkes’ Kurt Lovett, have featured heavily in Australia’s opening two games of the Youth Olympic Games qualifying tournament in Vanuatu on the weekend.

Australia’s under 18 boys got off to the perfect start with a 21-0 win over hosts Vanuatu with Farmilo scoring a game high five goals, and fellow NSWIS athlete Lovett bagging three.

In their crucial clash against New Zealand on Sunday, Farmilo and Lovett were again on the score sheet combining for three of Australia’s five goals.

The topsy-turvy 5-5 draw against New Zealand has both teams locked on four points from a possible six and one point ahead of Vanuatu who have three points.

The top two progress to the final and automatically qualify for the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China in August. Australia plays Fiji at 2:30pm AEDT today.
