NSWIS wheelchair track & road athlete Kurt Fearnley finished second in the prestigious Chicago Marathon over the weekend.

Fearnley finished the course in one hour and 30 minutes and was narrowly edged out by his South African rival Ernst Van Dyk.

Fearnley, Van Dyk, Heinz Frei and Joshua George battled it out for most of the race before Fearnley and Van Dyk broke away from the pack with around 200m to go. The NSWIS athlete fell just short of gold, with Van Dyk winning by less than a wheel.

Fearnley will next compete at the New York Marathon where he is looking for his first win since 2009.
