The finals at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta have begun, with NSWIS athletes winning a number of medals ahead of the weekend of rowing.

The main event came in the men’s single scull, with NSWIS athletes Spencer Turrin, Hamish Playfair and Olympic silver medallist Cameron Girdlestone respectively occupying the spots on the podium.

“It was really good… to get over Cammy (Girdlestone), that was the goal. I hadn’t been in the single for a couple of months so it was great to get back in and go alright in it,” Turrin said to Rowing Australia after the win.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Kate Murdoch was another winner after claiming gold in the women’s LTA single scull, clocking 4:13.00 to secure line honours.

In other results, NSWIS athlete Georgie Gotch claimed a bronze medal alongside Molly Goodman in the women’s pair, named the Sarah Tait Memorial Trophy in honour of the late Olympic silver medallist Sarah Tait, while Genevieve Horton secured bronze in the women’s single scull.
