NSWIS snowboarder Alex Fitch has narrowly missed out on medals at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, finishing fourth in the women’s snowboard halfpipe.

Fitch’s first run in the final scored a solid 60.75 points, and after the first round the 16 year old was in fourth position with nothing to lose. She took that mindset into the final run of the event, again tallying 60.75 points after catching an edge on a landing, to finish fourth overall.

“I just wanted to keep it safe and do my safety runs so I got that down and ended up coming fourth so that was pretty good anyway, a great result. I was happy to be here and be in finals and be with my friends in snowboard.”

It was a case of what could have been for Fitch after she crashed in practice, however she now has a chance to rebound in the women’s slopestyle on Tuesday.
