Canoe sprint paddler Naomi Flood has highlighted the NSWIS results from the second leg of the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup over the weekend.

Competing in Racice, Czech Republic, Flood won a silver medal in the women’s K1 1000m despite tough conditions. A strong crosswind played havoc with competitors, however Flood held her own to finish second behind her competitor from New Zealand.

Olympic gold medallist Murray Stewart was also in action, finishing fifth in the men’s K1 1000m before joining his fellow Olympic gold medallists in the men’s K4 1000m, with the crew, including NSWIS athlete David Smith, finishing fifth.

Jo Brigden-Jones’ results were highlighted by a ninth place finish in the women’s K2 500m with Flood, while Lachlan Tame secured a spot at the upcoming world championship by winning the B final of the men’s K1 200m.

The next world cup event takes place in Szeged, Hungary from 23-25 May 2014.
