NSWIS paddler Jessica Fox has started the Olympic year in style by taking the women’s C1 and K1 double at the 2012 Australian Canoe Slalom Championships in Tasmania.

The first day of competition saw Fox take honours in the women’s C1, posting a time of 133.86 seconds to win gold ahead of fellow NSWIS athlete Rosalyn Lawrence. The men’s event saw Will Forsythe take honours in the men’s K1 despite finishing third behind internationals Fabian Doerfler of Germany and Aaron Osbourne of New Zealand.

Day two of competition was equally as impressive for Fox as she secured gold in the women’s K1. Fox powered down the rapids in 122.09, edging Victorian Sarah Grant by just 0.39 seconds, with Rosalyn Lawrence in third and Kate Lawrence in fourth. Fox’s K1 victory is significant given there is only one spot up for grabs at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

NSWIS athlete Ian Borrows finished with silver in the men’s C1, with the final day of action taking place today.
