New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship athlete Jessica Fox recorded the fastest run in the early rounds of the Women’s C1 event at the ICF Slalom World Cup in La Seu, Spain.

Fox, who currently leads the overall C1 world cup table, posted a time of 107.15, which included a two-second penalty for a gate touch. Poland’s Klaudia Zwolinska also had a gate touch and posted the second quickest time.

Fox’s main rival for the overall C1 world cup title, Germany’s Elena Lilik, needed two runs to qualify for the semi-finals after running into trouble on her first run.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Noemie Fox qualified for the semi-finals in her second run after completing a  clean run in a time of 113.72.

In his first run of the Men’s Canoe event, NSWIS’s Kaylen Bassett recorded a clean run with a time of 103.39, just three places out of the qualifiers. In his second run, Bassett recorded a time of 119.96, incurring penalties for five gate touches, and unfortunately, did not qualify for the semis.
