The NSWIS men’s basketball team is inching closer to victory with every match on their tour of China, frustrating their opponents into action with solid defensive and offensive action.

Sunday’s match against the USA proved to be the most physical encounter thus far with the stronger, more experienced Americans using their expertise to take the match 89-64.

Matt Andronicos was the rock for the NSWIS in the first half, scoring a quick fire 10 points in 15 minutes before the Americans fired back with clutch shooting from beyond the three point line.

The NSWIS continued to frustrate the American team, causing extremely physical play from the opponents as well as some fiery encounters with the referees.

The second half was almost a different match as the Americans came out with defense that stifled the NSWIS attack. The NSWIS was limited to 13 points in the third quarter before some flashy play in the fourth saw the USA take the game from the Institute’s grasp.

Earlier in the day the NSWIS team participated in a promotional appearance at the local basketball centre in Tiandeng. The team mingled with the local community, council and media in an effort to promote the tournament and basketball to children in the area.
