The Australian women’s wheelchair basketball team, the Gliders, has been named ahead of the 2014 IWBF Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championships, with two NSWIS athletes earning selection.

Three time Paralympians Kylie Gauci and Sarah Stewart have both been selected on the team, with Gauci to line up at her fourth world championships, and Stewart her third.

Stewart is yet to win a world championship medal, following fourth place finishes in 2006 and 2010, while Gauci won world championship bronze in 2002. Both athletes, however, were part of the Gliders team that won silver at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

Despite their experience the duo, and the rest of the team, will face stiff competition at the championships having drawn the Netherlands, USA, Mexico, Peru and France in their pool.

The 2014 IWBF Women’s World Wheelchair Basketball Championships take place in Toronto, Canada from 20-28 June 2014.
