The Australian men’s K4 1000m crew that won Olympic gold in London returned to action over the weekend at the third Australian canoe sprint grand prix.

NSWIS athletes Murray Stewart and David Smith won gold in the K4 1000m, as expected, before Stewart added another gold in the men’s K2 1000m and bronze in the men’s K1 1000m.

Fellow Olympians and NSWIS athletes Sebastian Marczak, Naomi Flood and Jo Brigden-Jones also competed over the weekend. Marczak took gold in the men’s C1 and C2 200m events; Flood secured silver in the women’s K1 500m, and Brigden-Jones won silver in the women’s K1 200m.

In other results, fellow NSWIS athlete Lachlan Tame won gold in the men’s K2 200m and silver in the men’s K2 1000m and K1 200m, while Ben McLean and Scott Smith combined to take silver in the men’s under-23 K2 200m.

Combined with strong individual results over the course of the grand prix series, Scott Smith was subsequently named on the Australian under-23 to compete at the world championships later this year.
