Two NSWIS cyclists have been selected on the Australian Cyclones team to compete at the 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

Kaarle McCulloch will be gunning for her third straight world championship crown when she teams up with Anna Meares in the women’s team sprint. McCulloch and Meares set a new world record of 32.923 at last year’s championships, becoming the first women’s duo to break the 33 second barrier.

Katherine Bates, the 2007 women’s points race world champion, will likely make her return to the world championship track by teaming up with Josephine Tomic and Sarah Kent in the women’s team pursuit. The endurance team will be finalised next week.

The 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships take place in Apeldoorn, Netherlands from 23-27 March.
