The road to Rio triumph has cleared for Australia’s hockey teams with the fixtures for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games being released. 


The Aussie men, current world champions the Kookaburra’s, will begin on day one of the tournament with a clash against neighbours New Zealand, before a tough mid-tournament sequence against fellow medal hopefuls Belgium and Great Britian. 


Five NSWIS athletes are part of the Kookaburras squad and will hope to be selected in the final team, they are: Simon Orchard, Tristan White, Tom Craig, Matthew Dawson and Kieran Govers. 


Meanwhile the women’s team, the Hockeyroos, will meet a main medal competitor on day one, Great Britain who claimed bronze at their home Games in London four years ago. 


The Hockeyroos will also face off against the USA, India, and London silver medallists Argentina before a game against Japan in their quest for a preferable quarterfinal place. 


There are four NSWIS athletes in the Hockeyroos squad hoping to earn final selection: Casey Sablowski, Georgina Morgan, Emily Smith and Kellie White.
