The Australian men’s hockey team, featuring two NSWIS athletes, has had a mixed start to the 2013 FIH World League in the Netherlands, with a win and a loss in their opening two matches.

The Kookaburras’ first match of the competition saw the team suffer a 1-3 defeat at the hands of Belgium, before the team rebounded to secure a 5-2 win over Spain.

NSWIS athlete Kieran Govers scored the opening goal on 12 minutes, with fellow NSWIS athlete also playing an important role in the rout.

The team, looking to win the tournament to secure selection to the 2014 FIH World Cup, next plays France before the quarter finals begin on Wednesday.
