Despite being knocked out of contention for medals, the Australian Hockeyroos have won their final match 1-0 against Germany at the 2011 Champions Trophy in Amsterdam.

Australia previously lost to the Netherlands and New Zealand in the first two rounds, with defence being a key issue after conceding six goals in two matches.

The Hockeyroos played the match in a positive fashion, with attempts from NSWIS athletes Kellie White and Emily Hurtz being saved by the Germany goalkeeper. Late in the match the Aussies received their chance as Jodie Schulz slotted Australia’s first penalty corner of the tournament. Germany tried to force a late equaliser but were unable to do so.

After three losses the Hockeyroos can finish no better than fifth place.

The NSWIS athletes in the team are: White, Hurtz, Toni Cronk, Jade Close, Casey Eastham, Kate Jenner, Jacklyn McRae, Megan Rivers and Jade Warrender.
