The Australian women’s hockey team has finished with bronze at the Hawke’s Bay Cup in New Zealand after a 3-1 win over China.

Featuring five NSWIS athletes, the Hockeyroos were off to a quick start after NSWIS athlete Grace Stewart scored the first goal of the match just two minutes in.

A goal from NSWIS athlete Georgina Morgan on 33 minutes added to the team’s lead before a third goal on 38 minutes all but sealed the match. China were able to score a goal on 45 minutes but the Australian defence held strong to win bronze.

The team also featured NSWIS athletes Casey Sablowski, Mariah Williams and Emily Smith.

Elsewhere, the Australian men’s team continued their strong campaign at the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.

The Kookaburras, featuring five NSWIS athletes, defeated India and Malaysia 5-1 in their first two matches before then going on to defeat Pakistan 4-0 in their third match of the tournament.

NSWIS athletes Blake Govers and Tom Craig each scored a goal in the 4-0 win over Pakistan, with fellow NSWIS athletes Tristan White, Simon Orchard and Flynn Ogilvie also included in the team.

The Kookaburras next play New Zealand on Tuesday afternoon.
