NSWIS rower Erik Horrie has continued his world rowing dominance with a stirring performance at the 2014 FISA World Rowing Championships in the Netherlands.

Heading into the world titles as the defending champion in the men’s arms and shoulders single scull, Horrie maintained his world-beating form to clinch a second successive world championship gold medal.

Under the guidance of NSWIS coach Jason Baker, Horrie led by three seconds after the first 500m and never slowed, maintaining his form and speed to win gold in a time of 4:50.680 to be crowned world champion.

There was also medal joy for fellow NSWIS athletes Sarah Pound and Laura Dunn, who won silver in the women’s lightweight quad scull.

The Australian quartet finished behind hosts and reigning world champions the Netherlands, but were able to secure silver by a sizeable margin from their nearest competitors.
