NSWIS rower Erik Horrie has continued his charge towards Rio by winning gold at the second Rowing World Cup of the season in Italy.

Horrie triumphed in the men’s arms and shoulders single scull, winning gold in a time of 4:41:74 to defeated Russian Alexey Chuvashev and Great Britain’s Tom Aggar.

Horrie was joined on the medal dais by rising NSWIS stars Jack Hargreaves and Nick Wheatley, who won bronze in the men’s pair.

The duo completed a near perfect warm up for next month’s U23 World Rowing Championships in Bulgaria by successfully executing their race plan which saw a final 500m push that took them from fifth into the medals.

The next Rowing World Cup takes place in Lucerne, Switzerland from 11-13 July.
