Sailors Malcolm Page and Jessica Crisp have led an Australian medal charge at the 2011 Kiel Week Regatta in Germany as NSWIS sailors won two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the conclusion of the event.

Page’s consistency on the water was rewarded, as he and skipper Mat Belcher won seven of nine races for the regatta to take gold in the men’s 470. The gold was all but secured for Page and Belcher heading into the final race, with their nearest competitor trailing by over 30 points. The win also led to the pair being named 2011 ISAF Sailing World Cup Champions in the men’s 470.

Crisp’s performance proved that consistency pays off as she claimed gold in the women’s RS:X. Crisp did not win a race all week, but placed solidly in each race to be crowned eventual champion.

The women’s match racing event was highlighted by NSWIS sailors Nicky Souter taking silver and Olivia Price taking bronze. Souter fell to Russian Ekaterina Skudina in the final while Price was too good for American Genny Tulloch.

Although not competing at the Kiel Week Regatta, sailor Tom Slingsby was crowned 2011 ISAF Sailing World Cup Champion in the men’s laser class. Slingsby scored 95 points for the world cup series, 19 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

Elsewhere, NSWIS sailor Nathan Outteridge was crowned champion at the 2011 European Open Moth Championships in Switzerland.
