NSWIS snowboarder Jarryd Hughes has claimed one of the most significant wins of his career with gold in the men’s snowboard cross at the 2016 Winter X Games in the USA.

Hughes led the competition from beginning to end in Aspen, qualifying in first position before winning his quarter and semi final races to secure a berth in the final four.

He continued his impressive form with a win in the final, crossing the line in 59.292 seconds to outlast fellow NSWIS rider Alex Pullin, who took silver in 59.332 seconds.

NSWIS rider Belle Brockhoff was also in action at the X Games, narrowly missing out on the medals in the women’s snowboard cross after finishing fourth in a time of 1:03.290.

Rising star Ben Tudhope was also in the medals, winning bronze in the men’s adaptive snowboard cross final.
