NSWIS swimmer Robert Hurley has become the Institute’s latest world champion following a stirring performance at the 2012 FINA Short Course World Championships in Turkey.

Hurley claimed gold in the men’s 50m backstroke on the penultimate night of competition, clocking a new Australian record of 23.04 to secure gold.

Hurley’s gold coupled the silver he won earlier in the meet in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, before he capped off the championships with bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Kenneth To also experienced a successful world championship event, winning one silver and two bronze medals. To took silver in the men’s 100m individual medley, while bronze came in the men’s 4x100m freestyle and men’s 4x100m medley relay.
