The Australian junior women’s hockey team, the Jillaroos, has finished sixth at the 2013 FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup in Germany.

After cruising through to the quarter finals the Australians, featuring five NSWIS athletes, suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Great Britain despite dominating the match.

However the team bounced back from the unfortunate loss by defeating the USA 4-1 to secure a spot in the fifth place playoff, with NSWIS athletes Nina Khoury and Emily Smith both scoring in the win.

Facing Spain in the fifth and sixth place playoff, the Jillaroos suffered the same fate as their quater final loss to England, dominating for the majority of the match before going down 1-0.

Also included in the team were NSWIS athletes Jade Warrender, Lily Brazel and Mathilda Carmichael.
