The Qantas Joeys, Australia’s men’s under-17 soccer team, kick off at the 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup today against African powerhouse Cote d’Ivoire.

Included in the team is NSWIS athlete Luke Remington, who will be a key force in Australia’s midfield. Six graduates from the NSWIS Soccer Program will join Remington as Australia takes on Cote d’Ivoire on an artificial pitch.

The Qantas Joeys face a tough group in their attempt to be crowned world champions, coming up against Cote d’Ivoire, perennial favourites Brazil and Scandinavian giants Denmark.

The 2011 FIFA Under-17 World Cup takes place in Mexico from June 18-July 10 2011.
