NSWIS athlete Nate Johnstone has bounced back from his fourth place effort in Norway to win
his first gold medal for the season, competing in the mens halfpipe at the FIS world cup snowboarding event in Stoneham, Canada.

Johnstone scored a massive 95.5 points to comfortably take the gold from Japan’s Taku Hiraoka in second who fell shy of the mark with 91.25. Current world cup points leader Janne Korpi, from Finland rounded out the top three with a respectable 88.25.

This is Johnstone’s first win since his stella 2011 season, where he became the first Australian Athlete to win two Crystal Globe Trophies. This was due to his efforts claiming gold in the 2011 Snowboard World Championship in La Molina, as well as claiming the freestyle overall world cup and halfpipe titles.
