May is be a critical month for NSWIS kayak athletes Jo Bridgen-Jones and her former K2 partner Naomi Flood as they compete for a place on the Australian Olympic Team.

There is just one spot left for a woman on the kayak team for Rio and it is down to a contest between Bridgen-Jones and Flood. The pair will race the K1 200m and K1 500m respectively at the world cup event in Germany.

Despite being in separate races, Bridgen-Jones outlined how the final place on the team would be decided when she spoke with the Daily Telegraph’s Swoop journalist Amanda Lulham.

“Whoever is the higher placed athlete in their race get’s to go,” Bridgen-Jones told Lulham.

“If it’s the same result it will come down to the percentage of time you are behind the winner of the race.”

In preparation for the challenge, Bridgen-Jones challenged the Australian women’s rowing eight to a race in Sydney.

Meanwhile NSWIS hurdler Michelle Jenneke has whipped up frenzy on social media with a photo taken during a strength and conditioning session.

Recently selected for her first Olympics, Rio-bound Jenneke captured a shot of herself on the leg press, revealing she is pushing more than 500kg as part of her training regime.

While the leg press may only cater for 500kg, Jenneke’s strength and conditioning coach lent his support, and bodyweight to assist her training.
