NSWIS paddlers Murray Stewart and David Smith have highlighted the NSWIS contingent of results with bronze at the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Germany over the weekend.

Stewart and Smith joined compatriots Tate Smith and Jacob Clear in the final of the men’s K4 1000m, with the Australian quartet in the box seat to add a world championship gold to the Olympic gold they won in London just over 12 months ago.

After a strong start the Australians led through the 750m mark before being locked in a tough battle with Russia and the Czech Republic, with the Australians eventually taking bronze by less than half a second.

In other results from the championships Naomi Flood finished seventh as part of the Australian women’s K4 500m in the new crew’s first world championship campaign, while Lachlan Tame finished seventh in the men’s K1 200m on world championship debut.
