Taekwondo athletes Safwan Khalil and Hayder Shkara have both been selected to the 2016 Australian Olympic Team.

The duo, coached by Khalil’s brother Ali, secured their selection after winning gold in their respective divisions at the Oceania Qualification Tournament during February.

Khalil, who qualified in the men’s -58kg division, will compete at his second Olympic Games after finishing fourth at London 2012, while Shkara will make his Olympic debut in Rio when he takes on the -80kg division.

“I’m excited to work with my coaches to see how I can achieve my optimum performance at Rio,” Shkara said to the Australian Olympic Committee following his selection.

The Olympic Games take place from 5-21 August.
