NSWIS athlete Safwan Khalil is on track for the Olympics after being named by the Australian Olympic Committee as one of Australia’s taekwondo competitors for the Games.

After narrowly missing out on selection to the 2008 Beijing Olympic team, Khalil’s hard work and commitment has been awarded with a berth in London.

"My actual dream is to win an Olympic gold medal so I’m only halfway there," Khalil said following his appointment.

Recent results prove Khalil has the form necessary for success with wins at the Oceania Olympic qualifiers, 2011 World Universiade and a quarter-final place at the 2011 World Olympic qualifiers under his belt.

"My ultimate goal is the gold medal but I also just want to enjoy every step, have fun and do everything right in order to achieve that gold medal," said Khalil

In order to achieve his ultimate goal, the 25 year old will contest the men’s under 58kg category and face sixteen of the best athletes from around the world.
