The Australian Kookaburras have won gold at the 2011 Azlan Shah in Malaysia after a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against Pakistan.

The two teams traded goals for all of regulation time; Australia scoring in the 11th minute only to be equalised in the 31st minute, before pulling away again in the 44th minute to concede an equaliser in the 61st minute.

The extra time period was just as tense with both teams failing to convert good chances at scoring the golden goal. It eventually came in the 83rd minute when Chris Ciriello bagged his second for the match, and Australia’s first victory in the Azlan Shah cup since 2007.

NSWIS athlete Simon Orchard was rewarded with a spot in the Azlan Shah XI after a strong tournament that saw him net a number of goals on the road to victory.
