NSWIS cyclists Scott Law and Caleb Ewan have triumphed at the 2011 Australian Track Cycling Championships, respectively claiming the men’s elite and under-19 omnium in Sydney.

The omnium, an event which has been included in the Olympic schedule, comprises of six events with the eventual winner tallying the lowest amount of points.

Law was outstanding from start to finish in the men’s elite event, winning four of six races including the flying lap, 30km points race, the four kilometre individual pursuit and one kilometre time trial, to seemingly cruise to victory.

His performance saw a new personal best in the one kilometre time trial on his way to posting only 10 points in six events, 14 points ahead of second place.

The men’s under-19 omnium was a much closer affair, Ewan scoring 18 points to second place’s 19 points. Ewan secured five top four finishes in the six events, including a first and two seconds. Fellow NSWIS athlete Tirian McManus finished with bronze on 23 points.

The track cycling championships continue until February 6th.
