NSWIS paddler Rosalyn Lawrence has ended her two year canoe slalom medal drought in the best possible way at the 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup.

Competing in the women’s C1 event in Prague, Lawrence outpaced the rest of the experienced field to take gold by over seven seconds, producing a run of 117.19 seconds to win her first medal since taking gold in Cardiff, Wales two years ago.

Lawrence’s win came on the back of a disappointing 43rd place in the women’s K1, however she is hoping the win kickstarts some stronger form towards the business end of the international season.

“It is pretty exciting, hopefully it will be a bit of a confidence booster and I can keep doing it in the future,” Lawrence said to Canoe Australia.

Lawrence then teamed with fellow NSWIS athlete Jessica Fox and compatriot Sarah Grant to take silver in the women’s K1 team event, complementing the individual gold in the women’s C1.

The two medals were a highlight on a difficult competition for the rest of the NSWIS athletes in Prague. Fox finished with two top-10s in the individual events, fifth in the women’s K1 and eighth in the women’s C1; Ian Borrows finished 25th in the men’s C1; Will Forsythe and Lucien Delfour finished 26th and 35th respectively in the men’s K1, while Borrows finished fifth in men’s team C1 and Delfour and Forysthe joined together to finish sixth in the men’s team K1.

The next world cup takes place in Spain from 1-3 August.
