NSWIS canoe slalom athlete Rosalyn Lawrence was the big winner over the weekend at the first canoe slalom world cup of the season, taking place in Tacen, Slovenia.

Lawrence, who won gold at the recent wild water world championships, continued her strong international form by taking gold in the women’s C1. Lawrence finished 0.31 seconds ahead of fellow Australian Leanne Guinea to make it an Australian quinella. Lawrence then backed up to finish fifth in the women’s K1, with sister Kate Lawrence finishing in ninth position.

Fellow NSWIS athlete William Forsythe picked up a top-10 finish after he finished ninth in the men’s K1, just over seven seconds behind the gold medallist.

The next world cup takes place in L’Argentiere, France, from July 1-3 2011.
