Seven NSWIS hockey players have been named on the Australian Commonwealth Games team, three on the Kookaburras and four on the Hockeyroos.

The men’s team, fresh from their victory at the 2014 FIH World Cup, includes NSWIS athletes Kieran Govers, Simon Orchard and Tristan White. The Glasgow Games will be Orchard’s second following his triumph as part of the team four years ago in Delhi, while Govers and White will both make their Commonwealth Games debut.

The Kookaburras are aiming for their fifth consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, but will face stiff competition from traditional rivals England and perennial contenders India.

The women’s team, runners-up at the recent World Cup, features NSWIS athletes Casey Eastham, Kate Jenner, Emily Smith and Kellie White. Eastham and Jenner were part of the squad that won gold four years ago at the Delhi Games, with Smith and White set to make their Commonwealth debut in Glasgow.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games take place from 23 July-3 August 2014.
