Paralympic gold medallist and NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder Madison de Rozario has won her seventh consecutive Oz Day 10km event at The Rocks in Sydney.

In the scorching Sydney sun, NSWIS compatriot Christie Dawes finished less than 60 seconds behind her in second place.

“It’s so great to see the crowd back after COVID, it feels like old times,” Christie said after the race.

“We are celebrating Australia Day and our disability community.”

Traditionally held on January 26, the 10km course winds its way through the historical streets of The Rocks and Circular Quay and is predominantly organised by volunteers.

“The event couldn’t go ahead if it wasn’t for our volunteers,” Christie said.

“There is no ‘i’ in team and they pull off a great event every year.”

In the other categories, Sam Rizzo won the open men’s, Cormac Ryan the juniors, Jun Hiromichi the masters, Jono Tang the quad men’s and Sarah Clifton Bligh the quad women’s.
