New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarship holder Madison de Rozario won her second London Marathon after defeating the defending champion by just one second.

De Rozario — the Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist in the T54 marathon — defeated Switzerland’s Manuela Schär in a time of one hour, 38 minutes and 51 seconds.

“That was an intimidating field to be a part of,” said de Rozario, who won the same event in 2018. “You look around and see these three women you’re pushing with and thinking ‘these are the best athletes in the world’.

Cat [Debrunner] won this race last year in a course record, Manuela’s been dominant for such a long time and Susannah’s [Scaroni] come off the back of winning Boston by five minutes.

“So, to win a sprint from them was amazing.”

De Rozario’s victory comes less than a week after she finished the Boston Marathon in second place.
