Swimmer James Magnussen returned from a nine month injury layoff in solid fashion over the weekend by winning two gold medals at the 2016 Victorian Swimming Championships.

Magnussen triumphed in both the men’s 50m and 100m freestyle events, clocking 22.51 to take the one lap sprint and finishing the 100m dash in 49.35.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Kenneth To took silver in the 100m freestyle to go along with a further two silver medals from the men’s 100m breastroke and 100m individual medley.

Rising star Matthew Wilson also signalled his intentions for 2016 by taking out the men’s 100m and 200m breastroke events, while Kurt Herzog and Matthew Treloar picked up silver and bronze respectively in the men’s 200m freestyle and 100m breastroke.

Paralympic hopeful Taylor Corry was the standout NSWIS performer in the women’s events, winning gold in the women’s 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle multi-class events as well as taking silver in the women’s 200m freestyle multi-class.
