The Australian Matildas have maintained their 17 year winning streak over New Zealand after a 2-1 victory on the Central Coast over the weekend.

A goal in the ninth minute by NSWIS athlete Catherine Cannuli gave Australia the perfect start, heading home after a pinpoint cross from the right side of the field. The lead was short lived though as New Zealand equalised in the 26th minute before going into the half time break at one apiece.

A Matildas goal 10 minutes after half time broke the deadlock once more, with NSWIS athletes Kyah Simon and Ellyse Perry creating problems for the Kiwis until the final whistle.

Extending the winning streak of 21 matches over New Zealand has provided the perfect warm up for the Matildas, who leave for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup on June 14.
