NSWIS swimmer Ami Matsuo has made a fantastic start to her campaign at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games by winning bronze on swimming’s opening night.

Competing in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay with compatriots Kyle Chalmers, Brianna Throssell and Nicholas Brown, the Australian quartet clocked a time of 3:31.76 to claim bronze behind China and Brazil.

“Finishing off with a medal, we can’t ask for more,” Sydneysider Matsuo said to the Australian Olympic Committee.

“We feel like we are back at home with all the Australians back there and just cheering us on so it feels good,” Matsuo added.

The first day of Youth Olympic Games competition also saw NSWIS talent squad athlete Tom Schramko move into the repechage of the men’s single scull rowing event.
