NSWIS speed machines James Magnussen and Matt Abood will swim for Olympic gold when the Australian men’s 4 x 100m relay team hits the pool this evening.

It will be Magnussen’s only event at these Olympics and the former 100m world champion is determined to deliver for the highly-fancied Dolphins team.

It will be the first swim in Abood’s long-awaited Olympic debut after the 30 year old narrowly missed selection for the London Games four years ago.

His campaign will continue later in the week with an individual swim in the 50m freestyle on Friday.

Equestrian veterans Shane Rose and Stuart Tinney compete in the dressage stage of the eventing competition later tonight.

The Rio Games are just the second Olympics for Rose, despite being selected on the Australian team four times. He was forced to withdraw from the squad at both the 1996 Atlanta Games and four years in London.

He will compete in the team’s event alongside Tinney who is at his third Olympics and was part of the squad which won gold in Sydney in 2000.

Cyclists Amanda Spratt and Rachel Neylan will take on Rio’s picturesque streets in the women’s road race.

It will be Neylan’s first Olympics while current national champion Spratt will be looking to improve on her result in London.

Ian Borrows will be in action as Australia’s lone representative in the C1 canoe slalom while Lucien Delfour makes his Olympic debut in the K1 kayak slalom.

NSWIS will be heavily represented when the Australian water polo team begins their quest for gold against host nation Brazil.

Aidan Roach, Jarrod Gilchrist, Joe Kayes, Joel Dennerley, Johno Cotterill, Mitchell Emery, Tyler Martin and Richie Campbell will all be in the water for the Sharks.
