The opening two days of the 2012 FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships have brought with them a medal each for NSWIS swimmers Kenneth To and Robert Hurley.

Day one of competition saw To line up as a member of the Australian men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team, anchoring the team to bronze. The 20 year was backing up after an 11th place finish in the men’s 100m butterfly, but showed no signs of fatigue to hold on to third behind the USA and Italy.

Fellow NSWIS athlete Hurley then picked up silver on the second day of the championships, anchoring the Australian men’s 4x100m medley relay team. Hurley was in third place with 50m to swim, but powered home to secure silver in 6:52.29, a new Australian short course record.

Earlier in the evening Hurley progressed to the final of the men’s 100m backstroke.

The championships conclude on Sunday.
