NSWIS sailors Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen will be out to secure a medal this evening in the final race of the 49er class in Rio.

The Australians head into the medal race in third position and all but assured of adding to the gold they won in London four years ago.

They sit just three points behind second spot and 13 points clear of fourth.

Unfortunately the gold medal is out of reach. The reigning world champions from New Zealand have turned in one of the most dominant performances of the Rio Games and can’t be beaten for the Olympic title.

A medal for Outteridge and Jensen would continue an incredible campaign for NSWIS sailors in Rio.

Yesterday, Tom Burton claimed Australia’s first gold medal of the sailing campaign with victory in the Laser class.

Soon after, Lisa Darmanin and Jason Waterhouse took silver in the Mixed Nacra 17 competition.

Australia’s triathlon campaign begins this evening with NSWIS athletes Aaron Royle and Ryan Bailie in action.

Royle was the first triathlete chosen on the Australian Olympic Team after finishing sixth at last year’s Rio Test Event.

The former under-23 world champion trains alongside Bailie, who finished fifth at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
