14 NSWIS athletes and two coaches have been recognised in the nominations for the prestigious NSW Sports Awards.

Four out of the six nominated for the top award – Athlete of the Year – are supported by the NSWIS. These are Tom Burton, Olympic sailing Gold medallist in the men’s lazer class; Jessica Fox, who won bronze in the women’s K1 event in Rio; netball international Susan Pettitt; and Stuart Tinney OAM, who helped the Australian eventing team to bronze in Rio.

Two thirds of the nominees for Young Athlete of the Year are also NSWIS athletes. These include Josh Katz, the youngest person ever to represent Australia at an Olympics in Judo; record breaking rower Tom Shramko; Tiffany Thomas-Kane, who won a gold and three bronze at the Rio Paralympics; and Jessica Thornton, who competed in the 400m in Rio.

Four NSWIS athletes are up for Athlete of the Year with a Disability – Ryley Batt OAM in wheelchair rugby, Maddison Elliott OAM in swimming, Amanda Reid in cycling, and Liesl Tesch AM in sailing. Tiffany Thomas-Kane is also nominated for Young Athlete of the Year with a Disability, along with Erin Cleaver and Dylan Littlehales.

NSWIS representation continues through other awards, with Chava Sobrino in Diving and Rob Wright in Netball nominated for Coach of the Year. NSWIS sailing duo of Daniel Fitzgibbon OAM and Liesl Tesch AM are up for Team of the Year with a Disability.

NSWIS athletes were also pivotal in nominations in Team of the Year for the 2016 NSW 21/U Netball Team and the NSW Swifts. A further NSWIS nomination came via the Team of the Year with a Disability category and the NSW GIO Gladiators Wheelchair Rugby Team.

Finally, congratulations and good luck to NSWIS Sport Partners Hockey NSW and Netball NSW – nominated for Organisation of the Year.
