The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Anna Longman as its new Director, High Performance, bringing more than two decades of senior leadership experience across Australia’s and the United Kingdom’s elite sporting systems.

Having served as Acting Director, High Performance since September 2025 and Senior High Performance Manager since 2023, Anna brings deep insight and experience within NSWIS to the position.

Prior to joining NSWIS, Anna held senior leadership roles at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), including Manager, Sport Strategy and Performance, working with National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) to enhance high performance programs and support sports to strengthen strategic, operational and campaign planning towards Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games success.

During Anna’s time at the AIS, she also served as National Performance Pathways Manager, leading the development of the National Performance Pathway Strategy following the Federal Government’s $54.13 million investment into athlete talent pathways. 

Anna brings extensive experience leading teams in elite sporting environments, including as General Manager High Performance at Netball NSW and the NSW Swifts.

NSWIS Chief Executive Officer Kirsten Thomson OLY announced the appointment of Anna, noting it is exciting to see talented NSWIS staff members progress into senior leadership positions. 

“Anna has performed exceptionally during her time as Acting Director of High Performance and brings a wealth of experience to the Institute”.

“Anna’s experience across national and state high performance systems, combined with her leadership during a period of organisational transition, positions her strongly to lead NSWIS within this critical leadership position”.

“I look forward to working with Anna as we develop and embark on our ambitious plans for the future. This appointment provides Anna with the opportunity to shape the future for NSW Olympic and Paralympic athletes”.

Anna Longman said she is honoured to continue leading the High Performance team at a pivotal moment for Australian sport.

“NSWIS plays a central role in delivering Australia’s High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy, and it has been a privilege to lead the department in an acting capacity,” she said. “I am proud of the progress our athletes, coaches, staff and partners have made, and I look forward to working with the fantastic team at NSWIS to build on this momentum as we work towards 2032 and beyond.”

Anna will commence in the role immediately.
