NSWIS athletes were instrumental in an excellent Australian team performance in the spectacular inaugural Nitro Athletics in Melbourne on Saturday night.

Australia finished the evening in second on 1050 points, just 30 points behind the Bolt All Stars team captained by the fastest man in the world.

Michele Jenneke looked very impressive as she stormed to victory in the 100m hurdles. In the men’s long jump Fabrice Lapierre secured second place behind American Jarrion Lawson.

There was also good news for NSWIS athletes in the relays, with Christine Wearne lining up alongside Asafa Powell in the mixed 4x100m relay and helping Australia to third place. Anneliese Rubie was then part of the winning mixed distance relay team.

The innovative format proved a huge success with athletes and fans alike – and with two nights still to go on Thursday and Saturday this week there are plenty more opportunities for NSWIS athletes to shine.
