The NSWIS women’s water polo team claimed its fourth Institute challenge following an 11-8 victory over Queensland at the Canberra tournament.

A tough opening quarter saw the NSWIS team trail 3-4 at the first break, before a spirited fightback in the second and third quarters had the NSWIS leading 11-8 at the fourth quarter break.

The final quarter turned out to be a strong defensive performance from both teams, with neither the NSWIS or Queensland able to break the deadlock, leading to an NSWIS victory.

“The team gave it their best and it was a pleasure to coach them today, however it was (head coach) Ryan’s (Moar) work with them that resulted in today’s win,” said NSWIS assistant coach Predrag Mihailovic.

NSWIS athletes Hannah Buckling and Keesja Gofers each scored three goals, with fellow NSWIS athletes Shannan Martin, Gabby Wikman, Morgan Baxter, Maddi Schmid and Sarah Harris also scoring a goal each.
