The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and Subaru are pleased to announce the launch of a new Cycling Development Racing Team to contest the 2014 Cycling Australia Subaru National Road Series (NRS).

Team Subaru NSWIS will make a modest debut at the Blayney to Bathurst on April 6 and will compete at a further 16 events throughout the 2014 NRS and Regional racing season. The creation of Team Subaru NSWIS marks the first time the Institute will field a road cycling team in the NRS.

Four time Olympian Brad McGee, Head Coach of the NSWIS Cycling Program, will take on the role of Managing Director for Team Subaru NSWIS and is excited by the opportunities the new road team will create.

“The driving idea behind Team Subaru NSWIS is to deliver NSWIS athletes to career sustainable world class performances,” McGee said.

“We’re aiming to improve the career readiness of our riders on and off the bike, as well as build a legacy that will exist into the future.”

Commonwealth champion and current Sprint Coach at the NSWIS Ben Kersten will take the role of Directeur Sportif (Sports Director).

“Subaru has long been a supporter of Australian Cycling and this is just another example of their commitment to development,” Kersten said.

“Subaru are an awesome car and the people behind the company are the same. We are over the moon to be involved with them.”

The team is headlined by Mudgee duo Ayden Toovey and Jordan Payne who will be joined on the team by NSWIS athletes Bradley Heffernan, Jack Edwards and Nathan Bradshaw, along with new recruits from the NSWIS Talent Pool Harrison Carter and Sam Jenner.
