David and Emma McKeon, Daniel Tranter, Jessica Ashwood, Maddison Elliott, Jacqueline Freney and James Magnussen are part of a strong NSWIS contingent named in the 59-athlete swim team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting July 23.

Joining them will be fellow NSWIS scholarship holders Kenneth To, Laura Crockart, Jayden Hadler and Mitchell Kilduff.

The 2014 Australian Swimming Championships came to a close on Sunday with NSWIS athletes James Magnussen and Matthew Abood dead heating for bronze in the 50m freestyle in a time of 22.02.

The third place finish followed Mugnussen’s silver in the 100m freestyle on Friday night. Also on Friday, the NSWIS’ Bobby Hurley and Daniel Arnamnart collected silver and bronze behind Ben Treffers in the men’s 50m backstroke.

Australian record holder Jessica Ashwood was a standout in the final of the women’s 800m freestyle on Saturday, winning by more than eight seconds. The 20-year-old from the SOPAC Podium Performance Centre in Sydney won the race in an A qualifying time of 8:22.51.

Reigning champion Mitchell Kilduff booked his ticket to Glasgow by claiming gold in the men’s 50m butterfly Multi-Class in 26.83. Emma McKeon added to her medal haul with bronze in the women’s 100 freestyle behind the Campbell sisters.

Other results saw Daniel Tranter win his third men’s 200m IM title in a row in an impressive time of 1:57.66, whilst David McKeon finished his individual program with gold in the men’s 800m freestyle, swimming a new personal best of 7:54.29.
