Three NSWIS young guns have all but secured their spots on the Australian Spark athletics team heading to Barcelona for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships later this year.

Brandon Starc, Steven Solomon and Nicholas Hough all met the criteria for nomination to the team after their respective performances in the men’s high jump, 400m and 110m hurdles at the 2012 Australian Junior Athletics Championships over the weekend.

Starc soared to victory with a jump of 2.18m, Solomon clocked his sixth 400m qualifying time after running 45.99 and Hough all but secured his berth with a smart 13.71 in the hurdles.

Complementing the three NSWIS athletes nominated to the team were four NSWIS Emerging Talent Squad athletes; Michelle Jenneke (women’s 100m hurdles), Sara Klein (women’s 400m hurdles), Taylah Sengul (women’s discus) and Ben Jaworski (men’s 100m) are all expected to receive a nomination for the championships.

The 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships take place in Barcelona, Spain from July 10-15 2012.
