Three NSWIS athletes have secured automatic selection for the 2015 IAAF Athletics World Championships following the conclusion of the Australian Athletics Championships over the weekend.

Dani Samuels, Nick Hough and Brandon Starc will all head to Beijing for the world championships after winning national titles in their respective events; Samuels in the women’s discus, Hough in the men’s 110m hurdles and Starc in the men’s high jump.

Samuels won the discus with a best throw of 64.44m, Hough clocked a new personal best of 13.42 seconds to triumph in the hurdles and Starc secured gold with a jump of 2.28m.

The trio joins fellow NSWIS athlete Madeline Heiner at the world championships after she earned selection last week at the Melbourne World Challenge.

There was further medal success at the national championships for NSWIS athletes Rosemary Little (gold, women’s wheelchair 800m), Angela Ballard (silver, women’s wheelchair 800m), Alex Hulley (silver, women’s hammer throw) and Josh Ralph (bronze, men’s 800m).

The first announcement for the Australian Flame team heading to the 2015 IAAF World Championships will take place later this week.
